We started AFS because we believed there was a better way to teach creative skills — less theory, more doing. That belief hasn't changed.
Alberta Film School was founded in Edmonton with a single goal: give aspiring photographers and videographers the hands-on training they actually need to work professionally. Not a semester of theory. Not a lecture hall with 200 students. Real training, real feedback, real results.
We're Edmonton's only school dedicated exclusively to photo and video education. We don't teach animation, music production, or graphic design. We do one thing — and we do it better than anyone in Alberta.
With over 500 graduates and 90,000+ followers watching our students' work, AFS has become the go-to training ground for Edmonton's creative community.
You pick up a camera on day one. We don't believe in weeks of theory before you're allowed to shoot. The best way to learn is to do — and then get feedback, and do it again.
We cap every cohort at 16 students. Your instructor knows your name, your work, and your goals. You get the kind of individual attention that simply isn't possible in a large institution.
Every assignment is designed to produce work you can actually use. You'll shoot real clients, real locations, and real productions — not staged classroom exercises.
We teach photo and video — that's it. Our focus means our curriculum is deeper, our instructors are more specialized, and our graduates are better prepared than those from general arts programs.
A certificate is nice. A portfolio that gets you hired is better. We measure our success by the quality of work our graduates produce — not by the credentials they collect.
Your classmates become your creative network. We foster a collaborative environment where students support each other's growth, share resources, and build relationships that last beyond graduation.
A fully equipped studio with professional strobe lighting, backdrops, reflectors, and all the gear you need to practice studio photography. Available to students outside of class hours.
Professional video equipment including cinema cameras, lenses, gimbals, audio recording gear, and lighting kits. Everything you need to produce broadcast-quality video.
Dedicated editing workstations with the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite and Adobe Premiere Pro. Fast machines, large monitors, and a quiet environment for focused post-production work.
Our campus is at Unit 152 – 10045 156 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5P 2P7. Free parking available and easy access from across the city.
